Although there's no conclusive evidence as to what is causing girls to develop early signs of puberty, environmental exposure to estrogens and chemicals that mimic estrogen are among the key factors suspected. The early onset of puberty may lead to obesity, hormone imbalances and cancer.

In 2007, the USDA ordered all almond growers to “sterilize” almonds in one of several ways: heat them using steam, irradiate them using a controversial ionization process, roast or blanch them, or treat them with propylene oxide (PPO), a known carcinogen. Health conscious farmers quickly sued to appeal the order. Finally, last week a federal court ruled that the appeal may proceed. Its about time.

Eating almonds is associated with a 10% reduction in bad cholesterol, lower blood pressure, blood sugar and insulin levels, greater reductions in weight/BMI (-18%), waist circumference (-14%) and an 26% increase in vitamin E levels.

Red wine's heart health benefits may be due to its bioflavonoid content and its ability to boost the number and activity of specialized cells, known as Endothelial Progenitor Cells (EPCs), in the lining of blood vessels. EPCs repair damaged cells in blood vessels and produce nitric oxide, which plays a key role in the relaxation and vasodilation of blood vessels.…

Low levels of vitamin D may increase the risk of metabolic syndrome by about 40 percent, according to new findings. Metabolic syndrome is a condition characterized by central obesity, hypertension, and disturbed sugar and insulin metabolism. The syndrome has been linked to increased risks of both diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD).
